Carnival Cruise Line's Mardi Gras is voted as the best overall cruise ship of 2022 in Cruise Hive's annual Cruise Ship Awards. RMS Empress of Canada was an ocean liner built in 1961 by Vickers-Armstrongs, Walker-on-Tyne, England, for Canadian Pacific Steamships Ltd. The liner sailed in the trans-Atlantic trade between Liverpool and Canada. Ted Arison certainly had an eye for choosing the right ship; the RMS Empress of Canada was a well-maintained vessel and certainly in better shape than some pre-war vessels offering cruises from Miami.
Where does Carnival Mardi Gras sail from?
There are some exceptions to this rule based on the requirements of specific destinations, including Grand Cayman, Bermuda, and the Bahamas. Cruises that are six days or longer still require pre-travel testing for passengers over two years of age. Not just a simple pleasure, glass shower doors are a luxury for any cruiser who's ever felt the gradual creep of a plastic shower curtain. On Carnival Mardi Gras, every single cabin will have showers with glass doors.
The Carnival Mardi Gras Casino and Serenity Deck Pool are Standouts
If you’re planning to book a Mardi Gras cruise in the near future — or are just interested in what Mardi Gras could offer you and your traveling family — keep reading. We’re breaking down everything you need to know about this mammoth cruise ship. Carnival Mardi Gras rooms are more thoughtful in terms of design and storage than other Carnival ships. Unsurprisingly, balcony rooms and Ocean Suites are popular for their views of the sea. If you're an ocean lover, look to the Cove balcony cabins on Deck 5 - we’ve heard of people spotting marine life like dolphins from their cabin.

Furthermore, accessible tables are available in all the dining venues, from the main dining room to Lido Deck buffet. Cruisers will be able to let the good times roll in Mardi Gras' French Quarter, one of six themed zones onboard. Styled after New Orleans (in)famous district, the French Quarter on Mardi Gras will be lined with bars, restaurants and music venues, including a jazz club offering live entertainment and handcrafted cocktails. Mardi Gras is an Excellence-class cruise ship operated by Carnival Cruise Line.

The Original Mardi Gras: The First Carnival Cruise Ship
Grab a seat at the bar and order up a handcrafted Cuban cocktail like a traditional daiquiri or classic mojito. This bar is just steps from the pool, whose ocean view and atmosphere mingles with the bar's own, for a bit of that old-time Cuban resort flavor. BBQ, so we're building a Guy's Pig & Anchor Smokehouse | Brewhouse™ into this zone so it always tastes like summer here with freshly-smoked faves designed by Guy Fieri and original Parched Pig® beers brewed just feet away. If you're wondering where the pool and whirlpool are, we're so alike, you and us... And that's why we're sure you're gonna love The Watering Hole, a poolside bar we're building for aficionados of backyard-style relaxation.

Mardi Gras’ staterooms go above and beyond with amenities and design, giving you plenty of ways to unwind in comfort and style. The Ultimate Playground offers thrills you won’t find anywhere else, including BOLT, the first and only rollercoaster at sea! Believe it or not, BOLT is just the beginning when it comes to this thrill-filled, all-ages playground. The Ultimate Playground is also home to one of the largest Carnival WaterWorks, plus the full mini-golf course, full-court basketball, ropes course, and more. These comfy rooms with a view let you take in the scenery as you sail toward your beautiful destinations. But the views aren’t all that matters here — Ocean View staterooms on Mardi Gras® are a little bit bigger than Interior rooms and most feature a supremely loungeable couch for those times when neither lying nor standing will do.
INTERIOR
The ship has 3x LNG tanks (cryogenic steel) with total capacity ~3200 m3. Two of the tanks are larger (length 35 m / 115 ft, diameter 8 m / 26 ft, gas capacity 1525 m3), while the 3rd tank has length 28 m (92 ft), diameter 5 m (16 ft) and gas capacity 520 m3. The ship's bunkering takes ~8 hours and her LNG capacity is enough for ~14 days of operation (navigation and onboard electricity production). A signature outdoor fun facility is the ropes course SkyCourse (length 600 ft / 183 m).
The vessel was voted the Most Anticipated New Cruise Ship in 2020 and 2021. She was also voted Best New Cruise Ship in 2021 and Best Overall Cruise Ship in the same year. Back in 1972, it was a whole different challenge that Ted Arison was about to undertake when he purchased the RMS Empress of Canada.
All cabin bathrooms feature the fleet's first glass-door showers and in-shower shaving bar. Over 70% of all staterooms are outside, 300 pairs are connecting/family cabins. The Mardi Gras is one of three Excel-class ships currently sailing with Carnival. Some signature features are the BOLT roller coaster, a LOFT 19 suite area, the exclusive Havana. They're Carnival's first ships that run on LNG, a cleaner burning fuel. They're known for their six-distinct zones, all with a different theme, that make the ship easier to navigate and breaks up the large crowds.

No matter which stateroom you book on Mardi Gras, you can expect modern and calming decor, plenty of storage space, and all the comforts you expect when you sail with Carnival Cruise Line. If you plan to book a cruise vacation aboard Carnival’s Mardi Gras or just want to see what all the excitement is about, we’ll break down everything you need to know about Carnival’s mega-ship. In 1995 was created Royal Olympic Cruise Lines as a merger of "Epirotiki Line" and "Sun Line". In 2000, all scheduled voyages were canceled and the boat was laid up in Port Piraeus-Athens Greece. In 2001, the ship (renamed "Apollon") re-entered service for short-breaks (3-4-day) roundtrips from homeport Piraeus. In 2003, the 42-years-old liner was laid up again, and soon sold for scrap.
In addition to a private, outdoor hot tub and shower, you’ll also have full access to the Cloud 9’s thermal suite and the Havana pool area. The ship is the first of Carnival’s Excel class to debut and is currently the largest in Carnival’s fleet. The vessel features LNG (liquid natural gas) technology, six themed zones, and the first roller coaster at sea.
Book one of these staterooms and enjoy priority spa reservations, unlimited access to the thermal suites, free fitness classes, exclusive discounts and more! And you can have comfort and value — Mardi Gras’s got a full range of Cloud 9 staterooms in all sizes, from cozy Interiors to stretch-out Suites. And we'd know, with all the Italian seafaring spirit that's literally driving the ship. Mardi Gras® debuts Piazza Panini where the handhelds are hot and pressed, plus Bar della Rosa, where you'll sip authentic espresso drinks by day and classic Italian cocktails when the sun goes down. All this flavor and flair we’ve got in here may practically transport you straight to Italy… but don’t forget that so much of it can be enjoyed outdoors, where the sea breeze is just bellissimo.
Other highlights include the casino, which is by far the largest on Carnival, taking up a significant portion of Deck 7. The Havana Pool is exclusive to Havana stateroom guests, but is more of a hot tub than a pool. The adults-only Serenity Deck now has a full pool, as well as two hot tubs, a bar and a salad bar. Delicious dining options from casual eateries and an ice cream parlor to a special venue for superb gourmet dinners, ideal for foodies.
Mardi Gras has already completed two sets of sea trials in the Baltic and is now in the final stages of outfitting. With Carnival suspending operations until February 2021, Mardi Gras will be among the early few cruise ships to begin sailings from Florida. Food is a big part of any cruise, and there will plenty on the Carnival Mardi Gras.
